So I found this engine for a reasonable price out of Seattle. It's a Perkins M60, a little bit more power than the previous one and consumes less fuel.

I needed to drop about an inch on the two front motor mounts but they couldn't go any lower in order to align the new engine with the original transmission and for the engine bed to clear the engine so I had to do some modification on the engine bed by cutting the two front corners and re-glass them. I also put in four new dry-cell batteries(deep cycle) while the engine still sits on top of the cockpit.

My original intention was to try and rebuild the engine (Perkins 4-107) but after hours of searching for parts turned up empty, though I could convert and use some parts off of the 108 model it would still take too long. Now the search is on for a replacement engine.

The bilge

The bilge was full of engine oil from the previous engine so I had to clean it with the degreeser and later sanded and painted, two new water tanks will be placed in it and will hold about eighty gallons of fresh water.

The deck

Sanding the teak deck was a pain in the ass, I first started off using palm sander but later on I finished the whole thing with a belt-sander. Next is re-routing some spots and re-seal them.

I now officially own a vessel of my dream, a Westsail 32, It's like a destiny since I always thought that I could never afford one but here she is. She needs some works, all boats do. I'm hoping that I can get her ready before September of 2011 as I would start my journey sailing south and eventually crossing the Pacific ocean.
